Tough Race One For Puccetti Riders

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing’s FIM Supersport World Championship riders Can Öncü and Yari Montella came away from Race One with no points after a highly dramatic first Raceday day at the 4.212km long Autodrom Most.

To the relief of all the expected heavy rains did not arrive and the first WorldSSP event of the weekend got underway as planned.

After a multiple rider collision at the first corner of the first lap both Öncu and Montella would pay a price, leaving them without points but looking forward to Race Two on Sunday.

Can was given a ride-through penalty by Race Direction for his involvement in the first corner crash. This dropped him from third on lap four to 21st, which would prove to be his final finishing position.

Yari was taken out in the first corner incident and the damage done to his machine in the crash meant he was unable to restart.

A second 19-lap WorldSSP race will take place at Most on 31 July, at the earlier time of 12.30 local time in the Czech Republic.

Can Öncü, stated: “The bike was perfect, we tried our best but they gave me a ride-through penalty. Because of this I lost so much time I could not finish in the points and was 21st. I am a little angry, but I want to say good luck to everybody for tomorrow’s race.”

Yari Montella, stated: “Unfortunately, my race only lasted a few hundred metres. Another rider arrived at the first chicane too fast and as a result I was hit by some other riders and crashed. I was unable to continue my race. Luckily, I’m not hurt but I’m really sorry for the team as they’ve worked so hard over the last two days. Fortunately we have another race straight away tomorrow.”

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) was eighth in Race One (replicating his starting position) and as a result he was the top placed Kawasaki rider.

Tom Booth-Amos (Prodina Racing Kawasaki), a WorldSSP rookie like Huertas, was 15th at Most on Saturday, scoring a championship point.

Ben Currie (Motozoo Racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) was 24th and his team-mate Jeffrey Buis 25th in the opening WorldSSP race.
