Assen Kawasaki Dominance

The SBK circus rolled into the northern Dutch town of Assen for the fourth round of the World Superbike Championship in late April and Kawasaki riders dominated the event.

With a landslide of wins in every single racing class, Kawasaki swept the board claiming Superbike wins on Saturday and Sunday thanks to KRT rider Jonathan Rea. In addition, the packed grandstand witnessed the first podium topping outing in 2017 for Supersport rider, Kenan Sofuoglu.

Victory was not simply confined to classes where Kawasaki has traditionally proved dominant; far from it in fact. Taking his first win of the season in Stock1000, Toprak Razatlioglu pushed his Ninja ZX-10RR to the front of a highly competitive field to vindicate the decision of Puccetti Kawasaki racing to field an entrant in four different classes this season.

Making it a clean sweep – or should that be a Green Sweep? – a gutsy ride by Scott Deroue saw his diminutive Ninja 300 take first place to deliver the 21 year old Dutch rider his second win in two outings in the WorldSSP 300 Championship.

With such diversity in terms of riders, teams and machinery, to dominate the podium across the board is indeed an achievement. Now the Kawasaki challenge is to reload and repeat.
