The French youngster took a perfect start in the opening moto to lead for six laps, but, feeling uncomfortable with arm pump in his forearms, wisely settled for fifth place at the finish on a track which claimed several crash victims throughout the weekend. Regrouping for race two he charged through the pack to third position to secure second overall and is now third in the points standings, just nine points behind the pacesetter with four rounds remaining.
Teenage teammate Nicolas Dercourt recorded his best performance of the series as he twice raced up the leaderboard to finish seventh and sixth for sixth overall. The scoreline has also seen him advance to eighth in the series with every prospect of advancing further in the upcoming rounds.
Maxime Desprey: “Yesterday was not so good as I got the holeshot and led the race for many laps, but I only finished fifth after I suffered arm pump. Today I really wanted to win, but my start was not so good and I had to be satisfied with third position. I’m disappointed as we have worked with Jacky (Vimond) for the last two weeks in Belgium to prepare the sandy rounds of the series, and I was expecting better than a third overall here in Germany. I scored good points in the championship and I am now only nine points behind the series leader. There are four more races to go so we must stay focused and continue to work hard with the team.”
Nicolas Dercourt: “It’s good to get again some good results again; this was my best weekend in the series so far even if my starts were not perfect. It’s the first time I have raced here and I had a good feeling with the track; it was rough but today I was able to finish sixth with good lap times. For the first time in many weeks I didn’t suffered too much with my injured knee; I worked a lot with my doctor and my physio to solve this problem, and I didn’t have pain but I took care in the corners. I hope that I will get some more top ten race results as I’m not so far from the top five of the series now.”
