Darian Sanayei eighth in Switzerland

Darian Sanayei secured eighth place in the Swiss round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Frauenfeld-Gachnang with two top ten finishes aboard the Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki.

The American took an instant liking to the man-made track adjacent to the local sugar factory to post fourth-best time in both the practice and the qualifying race, thus earning a good choice of gate, but he found himself ninth after the initial sort-out in race one and advanced to eighth before losing two places in the closing stages. He initially moved forward to ninth in race two also, but lost two places before regrouping in the final stages to regain ninth place. This gave him eighth overall in the GP and he has consolidated his hold on twelfth place in the series standings.

After qualifying fifteenth Stephen Rubini of the Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team made an excellent seventh-placed start in the opening GP moto and maintained a top ten ranking for six laps before riding errors gradually saw him lose places to finish sixteenth. His second start was even better and Stephen held fourth place for three laps before gradually losing his rhythm to again finish sixteenth.

Darian Sanayei: “I think that this weekend was a big improvement; we’re moving in the right direction. Saturday was a very good day, I got good results in the practice sessions and got a fourth in the qualifying race as I passed Olsen in the last lap of the race. My speed was really good; I was really happy coming into the weekend and my problem today was that I used too much energy on Saturday and didn’t save enough for race day. I felt I could have done better but I gave everything I had in my body. I finished eighth overall. I wanted better but today I was not as good as yesterday at the starts; we remain positive for the next GP.”

Stephen Rubini: “It’s good to have a pretty good weekend, the best one for a few weeks. I had a good result in the free practice session and then qualified fifteenth. Today I got some good starts, including a top four at the second moto, and I was able to maintain the pace for ten to fifteen minutes, but then it was more difficult and I lost positions to finish sixteenth each time. In the second race I had some good battles and that’s how you improve. I know that I must continue to train hard so I will be able to do even better; the track was fast and rough, it was tough physically.”
