Clement Desalle fourth at Lommel

Clement Desalle of the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team swept to fourth place in the Belgian round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship to maintain his top three series ranking.

The Belgian’s home round of the series at the Lommel sand track is a tough affair for all of the competitors and Clement displayed his professionalism to ride securely and confidently all weekend in the tough conditions. Initially seventh in the opening moto, he persevered to finish sixth and followed this with an even stronger ride in race two when he held down third position for several laps before a small error pushed him back to fifth at the chequered flag. He now holds third place in the championship standings and has increased his advantage over the chasers.

Teammate Jordi Tixier was unfortunately absent as he suffered a broken rib during an incident when he collided with the abandoned machine of a local amateur whilst practising at Lommel one week before the GP.

Clement Desalle: "I came here with a top five result in my mind, so I achieved what I wanted but I was also looking for two top five moto results to maintain consistency; in general though it was not so bad and I was happier with the second moto in terms of my riding. There is not too much to say; I had some better times and some slow laps to finish sixth. In the second moto I was third at the start and tried to follow the two guys in front but they were really fast. I also had a crash, losing some time and two positions. When Jasikonis crashed I was back to fourth and I focused on my rhythm and during the final two laps I just took care to finish fifth. A podium would have been so cool today but it’s a positive weekend. In the last two weeks I tried a few things to improve myself in the sand and some small tests on the bike to help me on race day; I think we made a small step and that's good. We’ll stay positive for the coming races. The track was difficult like every second moto in Lommel!
